Fujifilm is tempting me to surrender to .jpeg

Over the years, I’ve gathered quite a few cameras, lenses, and terrabytes of RAW photos. The latter can only be justified by the “what if I want to edit them and I need the flexibility?” question. With so much to worry about, sometimes I think I just need to stick to .jpegs and be done with it. And Fujifilm is doing a good job nudging me to the other side.

My first-generation Fujifilm X100 came before the whole preset/recipe/LUT craze, so it’s quite limited if you want to get popular looks straight out of camera. Even so, getting pleasant tones with the X100 is achievable. If you don’t want to waste any time searching for a good recipe, head over to Rossandhisjpegs and copy the settings you find there.

I’ve been shooting quite a lot in RAW+JPEG and the difference between them is noticeable. Here’s one example that should convince you:

RAW
JPEG

To make it look more nostalgic, I locked the ISO at 800 and used the internal ND filter whenever the shutter speed wasn’t fast enough. I don’t mind the grain.

If you tried this, let me know what you think.
