Back in July I wrote about the possibility of switching to Photomator, in anticipation of Adobe raising prices for its plans. This concern turned out to be justified: Adobe sent me an e-mail announcing a 50% price hike that I could offset by paying yearly, not monthly. I ended up buying a prepaid version from Amazon, which was even cheaper, so I’ll inevitably use Lightroom until next November.
One of the reasons I decided to stay with Lightroom is that Photomator didn’t have a lens correction feature (still doesn’t). As for updates, other than bug fixes, Apple didn’t add anything else to Photomator. Furthermore, with the new Apple Creator Studio just around the corner, it seems Photomator isn’t a priority for Apple.
So is Photomator dead? I’m still hoping it’s not. Maybe Apple needs more time to add all the features photographers need in an App that’s supposed to compete with Adobe Lightroom. Maybe WWDC 2026 will shed some light on its future. Honestly I’m still hopeful it’ll be updated, because it has a lovely user interface and it integrates with Apple Photos.
Make it happen, Apple! (pretty please)
