I managed to snag a Samyang 135mm f/2 ED UMC for about $220 and it’s quite good for a lens with no autofocus. Sharpness is great, the bokeh rendering is beautiful and the focus ring is smooth and precise.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get the results I wanted from a recent astrophotography session (the lens doesn’t focus to infinity on my modded a5100*). So I photographed the next best thing: cats.
Most of them were pretty calm around me trying to nail the focus. Some got a bit scared by the shutter noise. Anyway, here’s what you can get when shooting with a Samyang 135mm f/2 ED UMC on a Sony a6300:
*the problem might be the removal of the filter that used to sit right on the sensor. I could fix this by using this method.
