I think Sigma engineers know that building good lenses that sell well will convince the board to let them have some fun while making a camera. That’s how we got the DP range of cameras and the newer FP.
But the Sigma BF is different. It appeals to a larger audience and at $2000 for the body alone it might just convince some photographers to skip buying a Leica. It doesn’t have a mechanical shutter, a card slot and a headphone / microphone jack, so you could argue it’s not meant for serious work. You’d be right. But just look at it:
Obviously we’ll have to wait for reviews, but so far Sigma has gathered a lot of attention with this weird, minimal and beautiful camera.
